Curriculum Vitae of Dr. Robert Ivker
 

 

Dr. Robert Ivker, bestselling author of Sinus Survival: The Holistic Medical Treatment for Allergies, Asthma, Bronchitis, Colds, and Sinusitis, has been a family physician for 35 years.

 

Dr. Robert S. Ivker has been a family physician since 1972, after graduating from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a family practice residency at Mercy Medical Center in Denver and was certified by the American Board of Family Practice from 1975 to 1988. After starting his career as a solo practitioner, he founded Columbine Medical Center (CMC), a family medicine group practice that by 1986 had become the busiest family practice in the Denver metropolitan area. For the past 18 years since leaving CMC, Dr. Ivker has been practicing holistic medicine, with an emphasis on the treatment and prevention of chronic disease and the creation of optimal health.

From 1992 to 2000 he served on the Board of Trustees of the American Holistic Medical Association (AHMA) and was President from 1996 to 1999. Dr. Ivker is the past-president (2002-04) and a co-founder of the American Board of Holistic Medicine (ABHM) and co-creator of the first board certification examination in holistic medicine in December 2000. This certification is setting a new standard of quality health care in America. There are currently over 800 board-certified holistic physicians (MDs and DOs) in the U.S.

After curing his own chronic sinusitis, Dr. Ivker wrote and self-published the first edition of SINUS SURVIVAL in 1988. The second (1992), third (1995), and current fourth (2000) edition, entitled, SINUS SURVIVAL: The Holistic Medical Treatment for Sinusitis, Allergies, and Colds have all been published by Tarcher/Putnam/Penguin. This bestseller has sold over 350,000 copies. He is also the co-author of THE SELF-CARE GUIDE TO HOLISTIC MEDICINE: Creating Optimal Health (Tarcher/Putnam/Penguin - 1999) and THRIVING: The Holistic Guide to Optimal Health for Men (Crown - 1997). Tarcher/Putnam/Penguin has also published his Survival Guide series -- ARTHRITIS SURVIVAL (2001), ASTHMA SURVIVAL (2001), HEADACHE SURVIVAL (2002), and BACKACHE SURVIVAL (2003). He was the men's health columnist for Natural Health Magazine from 1997-2000. He lectures extensively in the U.S. and internationally to physicians, medical students, and the public on the subjects of: sinus and respiratory disease, holistic medicine, holistic health, spirituality in medicine, thriving relationships, environmental health, and men's health.

Dr. Ivker is a former Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose, and Throat) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
Dr. lvker is currently a Clinical Instructor in the Departments of Family Medicine and Otolaryngology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine; the author of Thriving: The Holistic Guide to Optimal Health for Men (Crown, 1997); and is the men's health columnist for Natural Health magazine.

He has been a keynote speaker at medical and public conferences both in the U.S. and internationally, has appeared on numerous television and radio shows, and has been featured in many magazine articles in American Health, Martha Stewart Living, New Woman, Health, Harper's Bazaar, Vegetarian Times, Natural Health, Redbook, Natural Pharmacy, and Alternative and Complementary Therapies.
